Power-Packed Processor

This smartphone runs on the 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset and comes pre-loaded with Android 4.2.

Samsung Galaxy Note-3 First look

Samsung has unveiled Galaxy Note 3 in the Indian market, giving us a first glimpse of its latest Galaxy release. Let us quickly go through what Samsung is offering with this new device.

Bigger SCREEN 5.7 Inches

This one has a bigger screen and comes with more pixels than its predecessor Note2, but is smaller in size and weighs less. And within this compact frame lies the 5.7-inch screen that packs 1080p resolution and 324ppi pixel density It also has an upgraded S Pen stylus that adds new functionality to the device. It has a lot of promise, looks better than the Galaxy Note II and adds a new flavor of features that offer improved user experience. Here are our first impressions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3:

Feel is PremiumThe devicelooks premium, even though it is made of plastic. The plastic back has faux leather finish and comes with a stitching along the sides. The chrome edges as in the Galaxy Note II are present here as well, but look better. Overall, the phone's finish looks premium since the back has leather feel to it, the feeling of cheap plastic doesn't seem to be a problem anymore.

Less WeightAt 168gram, Galaxy Note 3 weighs less than its predecessor Note2. Its width is same as that of the Galaxy Note II, but the length and thickness are lesser. This is a major improvement over last year's Galaxy Note model and similar to that of the top-end smartphones like LG Optimus G Pro, Sony Xperia Z Ultra and Lenovo K900.

Powerful Processor

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 version for India runs on a 1.9GHz eight-core Exynos processor that is based on ARM's big.LITTLE chipset architecture. While this may seem impressive, the problem is that the international variant running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip is capable of recording movie hall quality 4K videos. Such a feature would have made Note 3 a very excitingprospect for Indian buyers.

Improved Camera

The images taken by Note 3's camera are very good. However, while on full zoom, most photos showed lack of details, which is disappointing given the high price of Note 3 and more so when you compare the photo quality seen in previous Samsung phones that are priced much lower. However, colours and contrast levels were very good in all photos.

Lowest Storage Model is 32GBIndia gets the 32GB variant of the Galaxy Note 3, which is the lowest storage option that Samsung is offering with the phone. However,  if 16GB storage variant was also made available in the country, the price could have been reduced by at a least a few thousand rupees by Samsung. One already gets 50GB Dropbox storage and microSD expansion up to 64GB in the handset, so 16GB internal storage would not have been a problem.

Super AOLED ScreenThe screen is vibrant and displays beautiful colours. We have seen SuperAMOLED displays in many previous phones and the results have always been fantastic. Thus, it is no surprise that colours did not wash out even at acute angles and contrast level is very good.

Includes S pen Stylus

The S Pen stylus is more central to the Galaxy Note 3 compared with styluses in previous phones in the series. This stylus adds many more functionality, which actually add to the overall user experience and do not seem to be just gimmicks. It has a button that opens up the S Pen menu that allows you to find objects, write memos, copy data etc.
Some of the features we saw are quite neat. For example, if you scribble a phone number on the screen using the stylus, and then make a call, send text message or add it to contact without ever opening Contacts app. Or you can search for anything throughout the device, with several new options like Last Updated etc. Or, you can write an address and look it up on Google or map apps. You can select some text or a particular image from the screen and save it for future use; you don't have to save the whole page, as is the case with most other phones.

MultiApp

The Multi App view is present here too, but this time you can open the same app twice; this was not possible earlier.
Overall, the software features of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 seem exciting, but a proper evaluation can be made only after a full review.
At Rs 49,900, the Galaxy Note 3 is a very pricey prospect. With a price tag of half a lakh rupees, the company is pushing it too high, especially since its rival from LG is available for approximately Rs 38,000. However, it is likely that its price will come down in a couple of months, as was the case with Galaxy S4.

Android Phones within budget

Do you really wanna join the world of Android, and confused which Android device should you get for your self, then you are at right place. Today, it is possible to find mobile devices in budget pricing that are equipped with dual-core processors, 4-inch touchscreens; promising you web browsing, social networking, casual gaming and even HD entertainment. But do these deliver? Ashutosh Desai, Savio D'Souza & Javed Anwer  from Times of India review six such handsets to help you make a buying decision

Below are the latest 6 new devices under Rs7000

Videocon A24
Looks tacky with its faux metal trim and shiny white plastic casing. Display is bright, but lacks adequate contrast; dark colour tones appear a bit washed out. Lacks 3G support. Just 256MB RAM makes it sluggish; painful lag in basic operations like call handling, listening to music and text input. Any game with a hint of dynamic graphics brings the A24 to its knees. Camera suffers from a delayed shutter release; photos lack sharpness. Thankfully, voice call quality and overall network coverage are good.

Verdict: The A24 falls short on looks and performance. You are better off considering the other handsets that have been reviewed here.
Specs: 4-inch touchscreen (800x480px), 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 256MB RAM, 512MB (internal), microSD up to 32GB, 3.2MP rear cam, VGA front cam, Dual sim, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, 1450mAh Li-ion battery, Android 4.2.2

Karbonn Smart A26
Good build quality; stainless steel back cover and backlit touch buttons. 5-inch screen is capable of good colours; 720p videos run smoothly and without hiccups. Audio is loud and clear on headphones, but speakers sound low; call quality, although passable, is not very crisp. Runs casual games like Temple Run, but demanding offerings like Dead Trigger play with stutters and lags. Lacks 3G support; slow internet browsing speeds make the device seem even more sluggish to use.
Screen is plagued by limited viewing angles and slow touch response.

Poor camera: photos lack details and colours seem dull. Video performance is similar.
Verdict: The Karbonn A26 promises a lot with its big 5-inch screen and dual-core processor but doesn't deliver.
Lack of 3G connectivity, a poor camera and a less-than-perfect touchscreen prove to be deal breakers.
Battery life at 16 hours is good, but this is at the cost of 3G support. Buy A26 only if you must have a 5-inch screen as well as access to Android's large app ecosystem.
Specs: 5-inch touchscreen (854x480px), 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB (internal), microSD up to 32GB, 5MP rear cam, 1.3MP front cam, Dual sim, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2000mAh Li-ion battery, Android 4.1

Maxx AX50
Handles productivity tasks, web browsing, and casual games like Angry Birds smoothly. Supports most audio and video formats; and even 720p HD resolution. 5-inch display allows for comfortable typing; but legibility is routinely marred by its reflective surface and abysmal viewing angles. Loudspeaker, although audible at low volume levels, lacks quality. Camera app sports an intuitive user interface and image filters; output is decent enough for photo apps like Instagram, but don't expect family album-quality captures with this shooter.
Comes with apps like Kingsoft Office, Nimbuzz and Opera Mini.
Touch response is erratically sluggish at times.
Poor mic placement results in weak voice pick-up.

Verdict: Bad placement of the Maxx's microphone affects call quality; something that could possibly be overlooked if you use a Bluetooth earpiece. The A50 is not equipped for resource-hungry 3D games, but works well for everyday tasks; besides, it comes with a large-enough battery that lasts a work day - as well as a fully-functional office suite. Buy this device only if you want a 5-inch display in budget pricing.
Specs: 5-inch touchscreen (800x480px), 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB (internal), microSD up to 32GB, 5MP rear cam, VGA front cam, Dual sim, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, 2000mAh Li-ion battery, Android 4.2.2

XOLO A500S
Premium build quality; it almost looks and feels like the BlackBerry Z10's younger sibling. Touchscreen responds well to taps and swipes; handset performs smoothly even when you're running multiple apps. Games like Redline Rush play without hiccups at highest settings. Handles almost all video formats; HD video playback poses no hassles. Display suffers from bad viewing angles, but look at it from the front and it is capable of rich colours with nice blacks. Audio output lacks warm bass; the handset works well with the bundled headphones only. Keys on the edges of touch keyboard do not register correctly; third-party apps offer a better typing experience.
Camera clicks photos with a fair amount of detail and bright colours, but don't expect point-and-shoot quality. Recorded 720p video clips are passable

.
Verdict: The A500S is a nice combination of budget pricing, good build quality and capable hardware. If you're willing to overlook a weak antenna that could lead to call drops in low network areas, and a slightly erratic touchscreen keyboard, then this is a good Android device to pick at its price.
Specs: 4-inch touchscreen (800x480px), 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB (internal), microSD slot, 5MP (rear camera), VGA front camera, Dual sim, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, 1400mAh Li-ion battery, Android 4.2

Intex Cloud Y2
Smooth user interface; casual games run smoothly. Touchscreen is responsive, and display is capable of vibrant colours; readability suffers in bright environments. Touch buttons under the screen are slow to respond. Music playback is loud with headphones, but speakers sound shrill. Volume during calls is on the lower side, but is adequate.
720p videos are handled without any problems. 11 hours battery when used with a 3G connection. Camera output is decent, but lacks detail.

Verdict: The Cloud Y2 promises lag-free performance for most part; its screen is capable of good colours and the camera shoots clear images in good light. Overall, a very good choice for consumers looking for a budget Android phone.
Specs: 4-inch touchscreen (800x480px), 1GHz dualcore processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB (internal), microSD up to 32GB, 5MP rear cam, 1.3MP front cam, Dual sim, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, 1500mAh Li-ion battery, Android 4.2

Lava 3G 402
Pocket-friendly form factor; included silicon case gives it much-needed grip. Display is crisp and colours are vivid, but it suffers from a marked reduction in clarity when viewed at an angle. Touch response is average and its virtual keyboard lags noticeably.
Scene presets are few in the camera app and videos are recorded in the dated 3GP format.
Medium quality movies, including MOV files play without a fuss.
Loudspeaker is powerful. Though it lacks bass, it is reasonably clear enough for group listening.
Phone slows down drastically when running multiple apps in the background.

Verdict: Buy the Lava 3G 402 if you are looking for simple design, good build quality, decent display with a powerful audio output. But the intermittent slowdowns caused by multiple apps in the background is something you should be forewarned about.
Specs: 4-inch touchscreen (800x480px), 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 256MB RAM, 512MB (internal), microSD slot upto 32GB, 3MP rear cam, VGA front cam, Dual sim, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, 1500mAh Li-ion battery, Android 4.2.2

    Latest android must have app

Latest must have apps on Android.

We have already seen few of must have apps on your android device,Let us add more to that count.
These are some good apps I came across and found very useful.

    • Clean Master:-
If you are using a budget android device and facing the problem of lagging speed due to over utilization of RAM, then boss you should have this app on your phone, As the name suggests this app will clean up the memory (RAM) in order to keep your device running on speed when you needed most. It also supports a one tap widget that would clean the shit by just tapping. There is option to choose the reminder for cleaning up the RAM based on the used space and you can also schedule the cleaning process.

    • Software Data Cable
Need to transfer data, don't have USB cable...don't worry you wont need it again. This is the application which will allow you to transfer the data from your device to your Computer or from your device to other device and vice -verse. It uses the Wi-Fi tethering principal to share data with other devices, it also supports the sharing when your device and Computer is connected to same network, very soon they are going to introduce cloud support too..

It will be just amazing to share the data over cloud.

    • Super Backup: -

Well if you are continuously changing your android smartphones, or the ROM used for your android i.e using and changing to a new custom ROM often, then this the app for you.

The basic need before switching a device or ROM is to have all your personal details backed up now a days these personal details also includes apps..:-). Super Backup allows you to take back up of your Contacts, Messages, Call Logs, Applications,Calenders and Bookmarks...what else you need. It also takes its own backup and is capable to restore them all on any other device or same device provided that the back up folder is on SD CARD and can be moved to the desired place

    • Shush..
This is the most useful and smallest app you will ever come across. This application is very useful for the people who always forgot to move their device to ringer mode once they are out of meeting, and became the victims of their husbands/wives/boyfriends/girlfriends doubtful attitude...:-P
Once you install this app, you will notice that while making your android's ringer silent by pressing and holding  volume down key a new window will pop up which simply asks you the duration for which you want to keep the ringer shushed..that's it. Isn't is so funny..once the duration is passed and your device will be on ringer mode again...now no need to worry for missing important calls from your loved ones because of silent ringer..
You know this is what make android  "Smart" phone.

Which is the best launcher for your Android..?

Before we actually give the answer to the question above, Lets get an idea about what is launcher (for Android newbies others can skip this part)
A launcher is nothing but the UI of your device, from which rather trough which you are able to access all other features of your device.
Without a launcher you can not even call from your device, Launcher is the basic and unavoidable need of the Smartphones.

Now as you know what launcher is let us see the difference between stock launcher and custom launcher.

Stock launcher: - is the launcher by default which  comes with your phone as a manufacturers design, Below is the list of top android manufactures and the launcher they provide

    • Samsung---Touchwiz UI
    • Sony---Xperia Home
    • LG--LG UI3
    • HTC---Sense
    • Micromax-- Mlabs
    • Karbbon--ICS home

Custom Launcher:- is any other launcher than your stock launcher, :-)
By installing a custom launcher you can actually change the way you feel your UI, You can also try with the other manufacturers launcher in your device but not all the launchers support all the devices. With custom launcher you can also re-size the widgets and add all the other stuff that stock doesn't support
Apart from these there are numerous custom launchers available few of them are

    • Holo launcher
    • Nova launcher
    • Next Launcher
    • SPB shell 3d launcher
    • Go launcher
    • ADW launcher
    • Apex launcher
    • And many more....
As we move further we will see how to replace the stock launcher completely, or install a new one.

Launcher is the integral part of your device, without it your device is nothing,
so it becomes necessary to have the best launcher running on your device.
There are few points to be considered while replacing the launcher

    • Check out the performance of existing launcher, like how much RAM it occupies when active and running in background
    • If you are getting too slow responsiveness from your launcher consider changing it, it irritates you horribly
    •  Make sure you have back of your existing launcher, though it may be bad enough, in case if some happens while replacing the launcher at least you wont loose the access to your device
    • Before narrowing down your choice of the custom launcher its always recommended to check the reviews of other users actually using the launcher
    • Now you are ready to Go follow the procedure below.

The stock launcher can be replaced by two ways.
    1. By completely removing it
    2. By simply Installing new one and setting it as default launcher

    1. By completely removing it

In this case you will not be able to switch to the stock launcher immediately but of course you can restore your stock launcher from back up.This case is advisable only if despite having other launcher as default the stock launcher is running in background and consuming more resources

Note :- To remove your stock launcher completely you must have root access
To know how to root your device follow this link.

Assuming you have root access and a Root Browser application follow the steps below

    1. Go to root  /system/app folder and find your stock launchers .apk file move that file to other location on your sd-card and place the custom launcher that you would like to try in this location (/system/app)
    2. This way you are just replacing the launcher file, but there are many other files associated with launcher, its better no to remove them, as it may affect the other operations in system
    3. Once this is done restart the device and you shall get a new launcher with new experience

  1. In case if you messed up and after restart you don't see the custom launcher running (this may happen with Micromax Devices) but a complete black screen, don't panic just install any other launcher from Play store or the launcher you want to try (if its available on Play Store).

  2. Once the launcher is installed click the notification which in tern will open the launcher and you will get access to internal applications.

  3. 2. By simply Installing new one and setting it as default launcher

This is the simplest method and very clear from name itself,
you just need to install the custom launcher and set is a default by pressing home key and checking the option set as default.
This method is advisable for those who don't bother about the stock launcher running in background and have plenty of RAM to accommodate the new custom launcher.

In next post we'll see a comparison overview of few top launchers available out there such as Go launcher, Jelly Bean Launcher,Holo, Apex, Nova and many more

How to improve the Performance (Speed, RAM, Battery) of your Android Device

Android devices made their entry in  smartphone markets with lot of expectations from users. In this race android was earlier lagging with the performance criteria and the most critical was the battery, as compared to the devices available at that time in market Android was having only one advantage and that is "Google". Since last 2-3 years Android has made a very good stand in smartphone markets and it has solved the very much performance related problems.
For today's android devices average battery life is 1 day, we will see how to improve all the characteristics that in tern help increasing battery life and performance.
     Follow the below mentioned checklist

    • First thing to check is the capacity of your battery it is mentioned in your devices manufacturer box or you can directly check it on the battery, the term is mentioned as MaH (Mili ampere Hours) e.g. 2000MaH
    • This indicates the capacity of your battery and how much strength is provided to your android device
    • Other part is to check what all sensors your device have excluding the common ones (proximity, gravity). This interns help you to know what is draining your devices battery
    • If you are not using your Wi-Fi, GPS actively all the time disable it, as far as Wi-Fi is concerned it has option to auto disable when screen turns off, but GPS doesn't comes with this option.
    • Install best battery saving application from play store as of now Juice Defender is best
    • Check the performance of your fully charged  battery for entire day without recharging in whole day, you can check it in Settings->Battery
    • It will give you clear idea what is eating the juice
    • If your device have auto brightness option; use it ,it helps to increase your battery life almost 10-20%
    • There is one more thing that drains your battery but you never notices it that is your processor, The highest capacity processor you have the high amount of battery consumption is made by device. To tackle this issue you can set up the CPU speed and tie it with various profiles. There are various applications like Set CPU, ROM Tool Box etc which actually helps you to monitor the speed of CPU, all these applications need root access, To know how to gain root access follow this link

     Improving  Speed and Ram optimization

    • As we have seen above the CPU speed is a key part in performance of your android. There are various options available like over clocking your CPU speed to higher one by installing new kernel which supports overclocking check out this post for Samsung Galaxy S duos
    • RAM of your device is also a key part in performance, to improve RAM optimization again you need to have supporting kernel and of course root access
    • There are various options available to increase your existing RAM by adding swapping file on SD card, and they do work great.
    • Below are some links you may find useful

Overclocking (OC) Samsung Galaxy S Duos GT-S7562 to 1.2 Ghz

Samsung Galaxy S duos is now becoming a budget smartphone, It offers specifications such as 1 GHz processor, 765MB RAM 2 GB Internal memory and 5 megapixel Rear camera with 1.3 MP front camera for supporting video calling.
However with extensive use of this handset it becomes little lagging.

To overcome this you need to update the device with custom ROM, Fortunately and unfortunately there is only one custom ROM available for this handset
    follow this post.
There is one more option of overclocking your existing processor speed to higher i.e. (1.2GHz ) and for doing that you need to have your S duos rooted with CWM recovery check this post if you haven't rooted yet and this for getting permanent CWM for S duos
Overclocking means that increasing the clocking period which intern
increases the speed of processing any instruction by processor.
To overclock you need to install the supported kernel there are few kernels available for S-DUOS which supports overclocking
Below are the links from xda for these kernel's
Note :- While installing a custom kernel if you dont follow the mentioned procedure accurately you may brick your phone. Read instructions twice before actually doing it
The Kyle open ROM kernel can be installed through CWM recovery, but for the breakfast kernels you need to install them using ODIN
Just follow the steps below to install using ODIN
    1. Download the desired speed kernel on your desktop
    2. Get your device in downloading mode
    3. Connect the device to computer using USB cable
    4. Once the ODIN detects device and one of the COM port turns yellow
    5. Select the downloaded kernel under the Box PDA

    • KyleOpen ROM Kernel OC1 - Bleeding edge kernel with increased sensitivity, all features activated and custom boot logo image.
    • xvasek2 - Breakfast Kernels - OC Kernels for everyone, plenty of speeds to choose from. If you really want OC and can't get around with any setup, use these kernels confidently.
