I will not be liable for any resulting damage to your phone! Everything you do,  do at your own risk!

Like all other Samsung Phone rooting procedure is same for this one too, only thing changes is the update.zip file.
Follow the procedure, it also contains the procedure for CWM recovery
  • Get the update.zip file from here and place it to SD-Card
  • Get the CWM-S6102 file from here and place it too on SD-Card
  • Ensure your device is charged at least above 70%

  • Get your device in recovery mode by pressing the key combination (Vol down + Power +Home key)
  • You will see an warning sign and asked to press Volume Up to continue or Volume Down to Reboot, Continue.. If you want to still root your phone.
  • Once you are in Recovery Mode you will get few options, select apply update from SD-Card.
  • Navigate to the update.zip file using volume rocker, and press home to select the file
  • Once you got the message saying update successful, reboot device by selecting the reboot system now option
  • After being successfully rebooted check for the super user icon,if you got it...cheers you've got root access.
  • If you don't want CWM recovery you can skip below steps, but I suggest to have it and then get your existing ROM backed up so that later at any point of time you can revert back your device to its stock and stay rooted.
  • Now get Back to recovery mode, and select the same option apply update from sd-card
  • Navigate to the CWM-S6102.zip file downloaded above, and select it by pressing home key.
  • Once CWM recovery is installed you will directly get into CWM recovery mode, now you will see all new options,
  • Select backup and restore and then select back-up, the current ROM will be backed up, wait for few minutes. Once the back up is complete, select the reboot system now option and you've done...
  • Now you can install any other custom ROM or kernel enjoy...!! :-)

How to back up your contacts, messages, apps on Android

Many a times it is needed to have all our contacts and messages and other details backed up,
If you are crazy about trying new CUSTOM ROMS on your android you will sure gonna need this.
Here is how you can get all your necessary files backed up and use it later.

1. Backing up Contacts.:-
The most easiest way to back up your all contacts on an Android phone is to export them to a
".vcf" file and store it to sd card. Though there are several applications available which takes back up of your contacts very nicely so far this is the best way to have your all contacts in a single place. you can also view this ".vcf" file on your computer and edit it. The other option to back up your contacts is to sync them with
your Google account.

2. Backing up Messages:-
Not all but few people need their messages to be backed up for various reasons, for those there is the simplest
ever app available in android named ad SMS back up and restore you can get it here. What it does is
it gets all your messages lined up in a xml file and store it to SD Card. There are few other apps available
for the same task but so far this one is better.

3.Backing up your Apps:-
This is the most critical need for the users who switches from one ROM to another OR from one Android device to another. Though we have all our apps listed on our Google play store, downloading all of them again at a point of time sounds annoying. If you have root access this is very simple task just get the back up of /data/data/apps folder and you are done. Even if you don't have root access no need to worry there are few apps in Play store entirely designated to manage apps.
I do prefer ROM TOOLBOX to do all the apps related data, It contains a dedicated app manager which handles all the applications very well you can refer to my earlier post which describes the
usefulness of this application.

How to hide media files in Gallery on your Android

Many a times it is required for us to hide the sensitive media files such as Images, videos, music
How can we do that, well there are numerous options available, there are applications which can hide
any file on your device, some of  them require root access.
But the problem in this case is if by chance you lost the application you used to hide the files
then you will also loose the files that were hidden using that application.
ES File explorer, ROOT Browser, gives you options to hide any files on your device.
Apart from this you can also place the ".nomedia" file in the desired folder whose media content you
dont want to show up in gallery, or any other media application such as music player, video player
Just create the .nomedia file and place in the folder you want to hide media from and enjoy.

Here are the steps
1. Go to the folder whose content you want to hide, create an empty file with  extension ".nomedia"
2. Exit from the media application's and rescan media. The best way to do it is to Reboot..:-)
